Who I am
Shane Hillestad is the founder of Vestfold, a San Francisco based business intelligence and analytics consultancy for small and medium enterprises. Over the past five years he has built dashboards, data pipelines, and automated reporting for city government, a civic technology startup, Cloudflare's global People team, and local service businesses, cutting manual reporting work by as much as 75%.
Vestfold exists because most small and mid-sized companies are not short of data. They are short of one trustworthy version of it. The numbers sit in a POS, a CRM, an accounting package, and a folder of spreadsheets, and answering a simple question takes a week. That is the gap I close.
Track record
Cloudflare, People Team, Global Benefits (2026)
Built a read-only Zendesk reporting connector on Cloudflare Workers with OAuth access gating and PII redaction, letting the team analyze HR ticket patterns without exposing sensitive employee data. Automated benefits funding and leave-of-absence workflows across Fidelity, ADP, and Prudential, mapping current-state processes in Figma and cutting manual reconciliation while preserving human approval before any funds release. Led the migration of global benefits content into the Embark (WTW) portal across NAMER, EMEA, and APJC, and deployed a real-time project tracker on Cloudflare behind single sign-on that replaced ad hoc status decks.
City of Culver City, Housing & Human Services (2021–2025)
Designed, built, and maintained the City's real-time Homeless Statistics Dashboard, integrating 100+ service metrics across 7 programs so city leadership could track trends, KPIs, and vendor performance for 40,000+ residents. Built the Homeless Outreach Portal used daily by 20+ outreach specialists, replacing fragmented email and spreadsheet processes. Automated the City's full quarterly reporting ecosystem with SharePoint, Power Apps, approval workflows, and validation pipelines, reducing manual reporting time by 75% and delivering same-day insights to management.
Onetera, Research & Data (2025)
Built automated content production pipelines with Python, Jinja2, and Playwright, scaling output from 5 to 100+ assets per week and cutting production time 85%. Designed the ingestion and enrichment pipeline behind a 200+ municipal organization research database, adding 800+ validated contact records and lifting throughput 20x over the manual process it replaced.
Body Suite Spa, Marketing Analytics (2024–2025)
Built the conversion tracking and attribution reporting behind a paid campaign program that returned 7x on ad spend, making channel-level performance visible for the first time.
